Riggs and Murtaugh will stay on duty for a while.
FOX has officially ordered a full season of its freshman cop drama “Lethal Weapon”. The show, based on four feature films starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover (now Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans), has been give an order for five additional episodes, four instalments shy of the traditional back-nine order. This brings the first season total to 18 episodes.
“‘Lethal Weapon’ delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart,” said FOX president David Madden. “Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz have done a tremendous job on this show, which has proven to be a self-starter and solid companion for ‘Empire’. We are thrilled to add these episodes to ‘Lethal Weapon’s first season.”
On the other hand, TNT’s summer crime series “Murder in the First” is on the other end of that spectrum. The cable channel has opted not to pick up a fourth season of the Steven Bochco drama starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson, this after a third season ended with just over 1 million viewers for its finale, which is about a third of the viewers the show had when it launched two years ago.
