Looks like the community is parting – for good.
Star Joel McHale revealed in an interview with Metro Weekly that the latest sixth season on Yahoo was officially the last.
MW: Is it getting another season on Yahoo?
McHALE: No. They wanted to. But all of our contracts were up after six years. All the actors on the show, almost without exception — their stock has risen significantly and it’s out of the pay rate that is affordable to make the show. So you’re not going to be able to get Alison Brie or Gillian Jacobs at a normal television salary anymore. There is just not enough money to be able to pay for the show.
Yahoo is still maintaining, though, that the future of “Community” is “still undetermined”.
But even if there will be no season 7, which, after McHale’s words, is pretty much certain, a movie might be very well within the realm of possibility, McHale told TVLine at Comic-Con in July.
“We wait a little bit, let [the cast] explore their awesome careers, and then we get together for an incredible movie.”
So, it seems that not all hope is lost just yet.
UPDATE: Well, then there’s the following statement from Yahoo which might delight “Community” fans even more, and is in contrast to McHale’s words above:
“We’ve seen tremendous value in our partnership with Sony and are continuing to discuss future opportunities for Community,” Yahoo said in that statement today. So yeah, all hope clearly isn’t lost – yet.
